The course covers both Performance Based Planning and Programming (PBPP) and Performance – Based Practical Design (PBPD), and also covers specific strategies for increasing freeway capacity in constrained environments. The material is based on Use of Narrow Lanes and Narrow Shoulders on Freeways: A Primer on Experiences, Current Practice, and Implementation Considerations, FHWA Publication No. FHWA HOP-16-060.

After completing the course, the learner will have a better understanding of Performance Based Practical Design (PBPD) and the role of operations, as well as an understanding of following topics:
